Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Collage students were given a treat yesterday, when the US Navy 7th Fleet’s Band, the Orient Express and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Band rolled in to play some cool tunes to give the students a taste of good music.
The Orient Express led by Mr Davy McGowan had shaken things up in SOAS collage, playing tunes ranging from reggae, pop, swing, jazz and the classic rock. Meanwhile the Royal Brunei Armed Forces band led by LT. Herwan Hj Abdul Hamid, played similar tunes, but mixed it up with some popular malay songs.
SOAS Principal Pg Hj Zahari Pg Hj Ahmad said the bands playing in SOAS collage was for the benefit of the students. He said that with the school band being revived and where music is now part of the curriculum of SPN21, hopefully with both bands playing, it will not only open the eyes of the students but also entice them so that they will appreciate music more, and spark an interest not only in music appreciation but also to join the school band.
Teachers and students enjoyed the music that both bands had brought and was considered a nice respite in the school routine, especially with exams looming over the horizon.
For those who wish to hear their music and catch their performance, The Orient express will be performing live on Sunday 9th August from 4pm to 6pm at the Mall, Gadong.
