With the school reopening on Monday, parents are worried on the possible spread of the Influenza A H1N1 virus, in particular in schools. However certain schools have taken precautionary measures as well as an active role in helping prevent the spread of infections by holding extensive cleaning campaigns in the school itself.
Since the outbreak of Influenza A H1N! virus, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Collage has been busy on a cleaning campaign, cleaning out the whole school, a preventive measure to prevent the spread of the Influenza A H1N1 virus from spreading to students.
SOASC Principal Pg Hj Zahari Pg Hj Ahmad during an interview with the bulletin had said that the collage is prepared to help prevent the virus by not only cleaning the whole school, which includes classes, drains and public areas such as the cafeteria, and toilets.
He said with the help of the Ministry of Health, monitoring equipment has already been distributed to all the schools. Health briefings on the Influenza virus as well as basic training on using the monitoring equipment have been given to the teachers in SOAS Collage.
He explained that school children are at a high risk contracting the virus especially in schools, by monitoring the students with the equipment given, it is hoped that early symptoms of the virus can be detected and precautionary measures can be taken.
For several days staff and teachers of SOAS collage had held a very extensive cleaning campaign amongst other activities such as health briefings and training during the extension of the school holidays.
